Before you start
Your public profile link, your current business information and access to an account authorized to manage the profile.
Find the profile customers actually see
Search for your business name and location in Google Search or Maps, then save the public profile link. Check that the listing belongs to your business. Note any apparent duplicate or outdated listings for review rather than creating another profile.
Compare contact and location details
Compare the name, phone number, website and address or service area with the details your business currently uses. Keep a written list of mismatches. Check that the website link opens the intended page and that the phone number reaches the right person.
Review categories and service information
Check whether the primary category describes the main business and whether the listed services reflect what you actually offer. Use accurate real-world business information. Review possible changes against Google’s business representation guidelines before submitting them.
Check hours and current photos
Review regular hours and any known holiday or special hours. Look through the photos as a prospective customer: can you understand the entrance, space and services? Record outdated or missing views so you can plan new photography.
Read reviews and prepare useful replies
Identify recent reviews that would benefit from a response. Thank customers where appropriate and address concerns calmly, without exposing personal information. Keep a list of recurring questions that your website or future posts could answer.
Turn findings into an action list
Group your notes into incorrect details, missing information and new content to create. Agree which authorized person will make each change. Review the profile again after updates; do not interpret a single search position as a reliable measure of long-term performance.
Your next step
A clearer profile can help customers understand your business. Google says local ranking depends mainly on relevance, distance and prominence; no review or optimization process guarantees a particular position.
